CASTRO VALLEY, CA — The little girl who died following a hit-and-run accident in Castro Valley on Monday has been identified as 12-year-old Lana Carlos of Castro Valley. Meanwhile, the man accused of driving the pickup that hit her turned himself in at the California Highway Patrol's Castro Valley office at about 8 a.m. Tuesday. He has been identified as Joshua Byrne, 24, of Hayward. He formerly lived in Castro Valley.

Lana was crossing Crow Canyon Road in a crosswalk at around 3:30 p.m. when she was hit. The CHP reports that a lifted, black Ford F-150 went west on Manter Road and then turned south onto Crow Canyon Road where it struck her.

CHP spokesman Officer Gabe Walters said Byrne is being held on suspicion of felony hit-and-run and vehicular manslaughter. The Alameda County District Attorney's Office will file charges.
