Castro Valley Sanitary District (CVSan) certifies businesses who maintain recycling and composting rates well over 60 percent in the 4R Star Business Program. This year, CVSan asked the community for help on Facebook and Twitter to find and recognize the work of environmentally conscious employees. For the seventh year, specific employees of 4R Star Businesses who promoted the 4R’s - Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, and Rot - in the workplace, were recognized with an award from CVSan.

CVSan would like to shine a light on the winners of the 2020 4R Star Employee Award for helping Castro Valley send less materials to the landfill!

  • Meena Sharifi from PostalAnnex: To reduce waste, Meena checks if used boxes and packaging material are available for customers to reuse. When printing, she offers customers the option of printing double-sided to save paper.
  • Omid Jamdar from Bee Best Learning Center: Omid teaches his students about the value of recycling so they can share what they learn with their families at home.
  • Russ Kaufman from St. John Kronstadt: Russ set up stations with recycling and organics containers alongside the garbage containers at the health care center, which significantly reduced their garbage.

Join CVSan in applauding the outstanding efforts of 4R Star Businesses and their employees! For more information about CVSan’s 4R Business, 4R Planet Award Program, go to cvsan.org/4RStar.
