CVSan: Nutrient Optimization Project Completed

CVSan in partnership with Oro Loma Sanitary District is proud to announce the completion of the Nutrient Optimization Project.

Castro Valley Sanitary District (CVSan), in partnership with Oro Loma Sanitary District (OLSD), is proud to announce the completion of the Nutrient Optimization Project at the Castro Valley/Oro Loma Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP). CVSan knows that investment in infrastructure is key to maintaining a high-quality wastewater system. This $24 million project funded 25 percent by CVSan was completed on time, on budget, and is currently operating above anticipated capacity. This project upgraded the existing treatment process to remove approximately half of the nitrogen from wastewater that comes into the WWTP. New equipment included high-powered blowers, fine bubble aerators, a chemical feed system, and the rehabilitation of a shallow water outfall that will be used to release advanced secondary treated water during peak wet-weather flows.

CVSan General Manager Roland P. Williams stated, “This project represents a significant investment in our infrastructure. The WWTP is the backbone of our community’s wastewater system. The Nutrient Optimization Project will help improve water quality and overall Bay health and will provide us with the ability to continue our mission to protect public health and the environment by providing high-performance wastewater services”.
