A man bought the dog for $1,000 in Tijuana. He returned the dog after learning that it had been taken from the Bay Area.

SAN LORENZO, CA — Brody the bulldog is back home with his overjoyed family one month after he vanished.

Brody wandered out of his San Lorenzo home on Feb. 3. A search for him was not successful.

His family launched a social media blitz that included such details as Brody is an emotional support dog, and that he "snorts like a pig."

A month later and over the border in Mexico, Benjamin Gonzalez realized that the dog he had bought was desperately missed by another family.

Gonzalez told ABC-7 that a man was selling him on the street in downtown Tijuana for $2,000, but he talked him down to $1,000.

When Gonzalez showed photos of his new dog to family members in the Bay Area, they recognized the snorting dog.

Gonzalez himself is a former Bay Area resident, brought here as a baby. He was deported two years ago, while the rest of his family remains here.

Brody has a tattoo, which confirmed his identity. Debbie Campbell's son picked up the dog in San Diego and brought him home. The Campbells reimbursed Gonzalez his $1,000, but he declined a reward.

The popularity of French bulldogs exploded into the news last week when Lady Gaga's dog walker was shot by robbers who stole two of Gaga's three dogs. The dog walker is expected to recover following surgery, and the dogs were later found.

Sarah Vorhaus has not been as lucky. In early January, she was walking her French bulldog puppy in the Russian Hill neighborhood of San Francisco when she was roughed-up by a gunman who stole her puppy. The puppy has not been recovered.
