Hayward Declares Emergency, Closes Libraries: Coronavirus

Non-essential city services and interactions will be on an appointment or telephone-only basis.

HAYWARD, CA — The Hayward Public Library will remain closed until at least April 13, officials said Sunday, calling the decision "a regrettable but necessary step to protect library users, employees and volunteers against exposure to coronavirus (COVID-19)."

Library Services Director Jayanti Addleman said that loan periods on borrowed materials will be extended until the emergency closure of the downtown and Weekes branches is ended.

Hayward City Manager Kelly McAdoo on Friday declared a local state of emergency that will come before the City Council for approval on Tuesday, designed to allow flexibility in deploying resources, workers and supplies as needed.
