Hayward Man Killed In Suspected DUI Crash In Santa Clara County

A 39-year-old Hayward man died Sunday after his car swerved out of his lane and crashed into an incoming car, injuring that driver.

HAYWARD, CA — A man died in a two-car crash in Morgan Hill on Sunday, according to police.

Hayward resident Tapelu Tapelu, 39, died in the crash reported around 8 p.m. Sunday on Condit Road north of East Dunne Avenue, police said.

Tapelu was reportedly driving south on Condit Road in a Nissan Altima when he veered out of his lane around a bend south of Diana Avenue and crashed head-on into an oncoming Audi driven by a 49-year-old woman from Morgan Hill.

The woman had to be extracted by Morgan Hill firefighters and was flown to a hospital, where she is recovering from her injuries and is in stable condition, police said.

Police said Tapelu was not wearing a seatbelt and that "alcohol is suspected as a factor" in the crash.
