The Hayward Police Department will soon be administering a recent grant for all of Alameda County as part of the AVOID the 21 DUI task force, police said.
The grant — $223,100 from the California Office of Traffic Safety — will allow the participating agencies in the DUI task force to target offending drivers at certain checkpoints throughout the year, according to police.      Â

Drivers can expect to see DUI campaigns during the winter and summer holiday periods, as well as certain days throughout the year such as Super Bowl Sunday, St. Patrick's Day and Cinco de Mayo, police said. Â Â Â Â
Checkpoints have helped reduce alcohol-impaired related crashes, according to police.
