Patch: How long have you been practicing law in the Bay Area?

Jimenez: Since graduating from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law (Boalt Hall), I have been practicing as a lawyer for 12 years. After running my own law practice, I became a partner at Louie and Jimenez, LLP in 2014.

Patch: Why did you become an attorney?

Jimenez: Ever since I was a child, I wanted to be a lawyer. Practicing law for the past 12 years has afforded me the opportunity to have an intellectually rewarding job -- particularly during trials -- while at the same time providing me with the distinct privilege of making a significant difference in our clients’ lives.

Patch: What types of cases do you specialize in?

Jimenez: At the heart of my practice, I am a trial attorney. Given my extensive trial experience, I am equipped to handle all types of trials from high stakes criminal and civil jury trials to bench trials in family law. I practice in both the State and Federal Courts. Given our extensive trial experience, our law firm has frequently been approached by other lawyers in the community to handle their trials. Putting the vast resources and skill sets of our entire firm behind cases like these, has allowed me to effectively advocate for the rights of our clients. Our strong trial practice has led to significant victories on our client’s behalf, from reduced or dismissed charges for criminal defendants to large settlements for a variety of civil suits. Being a trial attorney is an art and I enjoy it because it involves creativity, strategy and teamwork. These are all qualities that our firm proudly embodies.

Patch: Why did you choose to practice law here in California?

Jimenez: Since I grew up in Oakland, California, my roots are closely tied to this community.

I loved the Bay Area so much that I stayed in Northern California for my undergraduate studies at the University of California, Santa Cruz, where I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Legal Studies. Given my fond memories of life growing up in the Bay Area, it was an easy decision for me to stay in the Bay Area to pursue my Juris Doctor Degree at the University of California, Berkeley School of Law (Boalt Hall). As an added bonus, the Bay Area is lucky to have great sports teams. Although I support all Bay Area sports teams, I am a BIG fan of the Oakland A’s. Since I am also rooted in Oakland, it was a natural decision to practice law in the Bay Area, given that it is only a short drive to the stadium after work.

Patch: What is the most satisfying part of your job?

Jimenez: Naturally, the smile on our clients’ faces, particularly after a very challenging and hard fought victory. Having a client tell you that you made a big difference in their life never gets old and similarly never gets taken for granted.

Patch: Do you have any advice that you could give a prospective client?

Jimenez: Before you say or do anything, always consult with a lawyer. Time and time again, we come across situations that have gone awry because the person did not understand the law or was misguided by a well intentioned friend or family member, who also did not understand the law.

Patch: How do you get involved in the legal community?

Jimenez: Given my legal expertise and that I am bilingual, I also wanted use my skill sets in the community, which allowed me to work as a volunteer, workshop leader, and pro bono legal counselor at a number of community organizations, such as the Legal Aid Society’s Employment Law Center’s Workers Rights Clinic and Centro Legal De La Raza. I, as well as members of our law firm, frequently volunteer as guest speakers at businesses, organizations, and local schools throughout the Bay Area. Our firm also is involved in the community as a member of the Alameda County Bar Association.

Our firm believes in giving back to the legal community. Every summer, we bring in new law clerks as interns so that they can get experience in the field of law. Also, we volunteer our time as judges at moot court competitions for law students in California.
