Pursuit, Shooting Ended with I-580 Shut Down For Hours
The CHP announced that all lanes reopened at 2:54 p.m., in time for the evening commute.

OAKLAND, CA — All westbound lanes of Interstate Highway 580 in Oakland just before 3 p.m. They had been closed for hours because of police activity.
The CHP was diverting all traffic onto CA-24 and I-980. Traffic had been backed up all the way to Lakeshore at one point. By 1:30 p.m., it was only backed up to Harrison Street. Drivers got the message to use alternate routes to avoid the area.
The incident began when a CHP officer assigned to the Dublin office saw a silver Chevrolet
matching the descriptions from a previous lookout alert moving erratically through traffic on westbound 580.

The driver of the suspect vehicle attempted to evade the officer and the pursuit ensued into CHP Castro Valley Area's jurisdiction, where two officers from the Castro Valley unit entered the pursuit.
CHP officials said the pursuit ended in Oakland after the suspect vehicle got stuck between a transit bus and a concrete wall in an attempt to overtake the bus.

A CHP officer shot at the suspect when the suspect began ramming the occupied patrol car and the occupied bus in another attempt to evade law enforcement, but did not strike the suspect.
The suspect, who appeared to be under the influence of drugs according to CHP, was arrested and the roads were reopened by 3 p.m.
