Ice, Custard, Happiness on Castro Valley Boulevard

Rita’s Italian Ice finally opened its doors to the public on Monday.

Customers were able to enjoy a free regular size cup of Italian ice on Monday and Tuesday.

“It’s been going really well for the first two days,” said manager Janet Dean. “The line has been out the door all day long.”

A ribbon cutting ceremony will be held on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. The store is offering a 50 percent discount on all their products until closing —which is at 8 p.m.

Castro Valley locals, Matt and Stephen Levy, own Rita’s. The store is located at 3200 Castro Valley Boulevard.

This is the first Rita’s located in Northern California. According to Dean, the next closest Rita’s is located in Southern California.

“We’re very excited to be in Castro Valley, and we’re excited to bring this new product to the community,” said Dean.
