Lin Manuel Miranda’s Musical 'In The Heights' In Castro Valley

CASTRO VALLEY, CA – Crowdfunding has become popular for everything from wedding costs to medical expenses. Why not use the same vehicle for the arts?

Last October, community members from Castro Valley, Hayward, Union City and the surrounding areas donated 109% of the cost to put on Hamilton creator Lin Manuel Miranda’s musical In the Heights. The 30 day online campaign offered tickets to the musical and other goodies to donors .

Local businesses including Castro Valley Marketplace, World Famous Turf Club and Books on B contributed to the production costs.

Since the successful online campaign, Plethos Productions, a nonprofit performing arts company, has continued to raise funds via various shows.

Now, In The Heights, has come to life. The vibrant musical weaves together family, home and finding where you belong, all set to hip hop and latin beats.

There are three more performances - this Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 7 p.m. There are tickets still available at $15. The performances are at Smalltown Society Space, 2s222 Redwood Road in Castro Valley, 94546.
