Only CA City On List Of The Hottest ZIP Codes In America For 2018

Realtor.com has compiled the list "where homes are flying off the market and listing views get constant clicks."

CALIFORNIA — Real estate website realtor.com has compiled its list of the Hottest ZIP Codes in America for 2018, places "where homes are flying off the market and listing views get constant clicks." The top 10 list includes just one California community -- Castro Valley in the San Francisco Bay Area's East Bay.

According to realtor.com, millennials are driving the move to the suburbs as they get older, start families, and start looking for more space and good schools. "When it comes to choosing a home of their own, millennials are looking for opportunity and they’re finding it in affordable suburbs," said Danielle Hale, chief economist for realtor.com, in a statement.

And Castro Valley fits perfectly into that mold. In its analysis, realtor.com said of Castro Valley, "Affordability, an excellent school system, and easy rail access to San Francisco, Oakland, and Berkeley make this area especially appealing to young professionals. So it's no wonder that millennials make up 38 percent of new purchase mortgages in this ZIP code, although the dominant age group among buyers remains a little older, at 35 to 44."

How affordable is Castro Valley? Realtor.com reports that home prices are 17 percent less than in the broader metro area.
