Pedestrian Hit By Amtrak Train Identified

The male pedestrian hit by an Amtrak train on Wednesday morning has been identified.

A 70-year-old man who was killed by an Amtrak train in San Leandro
on Wednesday morning has been identified by the Alameda County coroner's
bureau as Maximo Cayabyab.
           
Cayabyab, a San Leandro resident, was hit by train No. 527 heading to San Jose from Sacramento on the Capitol Corridor line around 9:20 a.m.
           
He was struck near Floresta Boulevard and Washington Avenue, Amtrak spokeswoman Vernae Graham said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
           
There were 54 passengers on the train, Graham said. No one on board was injured. The train was held for about two hours before continuing onto San Jose.
           
The circumstances of the death remain under investigation, Graham said.
