Salvation Army In Need Of Bell Ringers
"Bell ringing is still a major fundraising campaign for our programs, and we need to find a way to staff as many kettle sites as possible."

From the Salvation Army: The Salvation Army of Hayward is facing an extreme shortage of bell ringers this holiday season. With 32 possible Red Kettle sites in the area, the Hayward unit is only averaging 10 bell ringers per day.
“We’re really desperate to find bell ringers this holiday season,” said Capt. John Kelley, Salvation Army of Hayward Corps officer. “Bell ringing is still a major fundraising campaign for our programs, and we need to find a way to staff as many kettle sites as possible.”
The Red Kettles sites can be staffed by volunteers or part-time employees. A volunteer shift is four hours a day, while a paid bell ringer works an eight-hour shift. The kettle hours are typically 11 AM to 7 PM, Monday through Saturday.
Last year, the Hayward unit’s kettle campaign grossed $160,000. So far this holiday season, the bell ringing has raised more than $24,000.
The Red Kettle campaign will continue through December 23 at various storefronts throughout the Hayward area. Kettle income supports holiday programs and year-round services like the food assistance program.
