Touching Reaction To Salvation Army Bell Ringer’s Christmas Song

Watch to the end of the song and you will see an inspired customer so moved that he wipes away tears after donating to the kettle.

CASTRO VALLEY, CA — A Castro Valley family’s beautiful performance of a Christmas carol favorite was recently shared via social media by the Salvation Army of Hayward Corps. Van, Valencia and Vanessa Ortega have volunteered and participated in Salvation Army programs for five years.

The touching video was filmed on Nov. 30 at the Lucky’s Supermarket located at 3443 Castro Valley Blvd. Watch to the end of “O Holy Night” and you will see an inspired customer so moved that he blesses the Ortegas while donating to the kettle and wiping away tears.

The red kettle bell ringers can be found in front of businesses throughout the country between late November through Christmas eve and are known for their kind holiday wishes and impromptu serenades. Donations to the red kettles help those in need throughout the year. Interested in volunteering? The Salvation Army of Hayward is facing an extreme shortage of bell ringers this holiday season.

"We're really desperate to find bell ringers this holiday season," said Capt. John Kelley, Salvation Army of Hayward Corps officer. "Bell ringing is still a major fundraising campaign for our programs, and we need to find a way to staff as many kettle sites as possible."
