A fry vat caught fire at Dino's Restaurant Tuesday morning but the blaze was so minor that normal service resumed the following day, according to floor manager Wanda Larsen. The incident at the Castro Valley Boulevard landmark occurred before 11 am Tuesday when a cook came back to find the deep fryer on fire. Click here for the full report.
Fed-Up Hot Dog Vendor Thumbs Nose at County

Marc Michieli, who says he's spent $17,000 trying to open a hot dog stand on Castro Valley Boulevard, but had his application denied. After learning of their decision, Michieli painted "County Sucks" on a sign splayed in front of what would be the take-out window of Muzo's Grill. He and supporters are also circulating the sign on Facebook. Men Arrested After Suspicious Doorbell Ring
San Leandro police have arrested two men who were allegedly in possession of burglary tools after a Washington Manor resident reported them for behaving suspiciously. Police say the incident began about 8:30 am Monday when a man rang a doorbell on the 15000 block of Norton Street. When the stranger realized someone was home he got into a car with another man and drove away, according to police. Police say the resident phoned in a description of the men and their vehicle. An officer stopped a vehicle matching that description leaving the area. Police say the occupants had no logical explanation for being in the area and that they possessed burglary tools.Â
Heron Bay Homeowners Sue to Stop Windmill
The Halus Power Systems windmill is headed for court.
Halus is a San Leandro company that refurbishes and resells used windmills for power generation. For more than a year it has been trying to get permission to erect a windmill on its industrial property at the western end of Grant Street. The project has been opposed by the Heron Bay Homeowners Association, a 629-unit development located about 500 feet from the Halus property. The homeowners say the windmill would be a noisy eyesore that would diminish their quality of life and hurt the shoreline environment. Click here for the full report.
San Leandro Woman Injured in Limo Fire
