Court Appearance Pushed Back for UCLA Student Charged With Three Felony Counts

Paul Meyer pleads not guilty to three felony counts after his March arrest.

A 20-year-old UCLA student arrested for allegedly choking a woman following a party at UCLA's Theta Chi fraternity house won't appear again in court until June.

Paul Meyer's next court appearance, a preliminary hearing setting originally scheduled for Friday, was pushed back to June 14, the Daily Bruin reported.

Meyer pleaded not guilty last month to three felony counts, according to the Daily Bruin. He was charged with "violent false imprisonment, assault by means likely to cause a great bodily injury and assault with intent to commit rape, sodomy or oral copulation," according to Daily Bruin reports.

Police responded about 2:30 a.m. March 8 to a call about an aggravated assault, which turned out to be the suspect allegedly choking the victim at the fraternity house in the 600 block of Gayley Avenue, campus police said.

Meyer was arrested at the fraternity house without incident on suspicion of attempted murder. UCLA later said its police would instead seek charges of false imprisonment and assault with intent to commit rape.

The alleged victim, a female UCLA student, was treated and released at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, campus police said.
