Patch's quick take on the essential things to know, the most interesting things to do and best places to be today.

Here's a handful of things to keep in mind for today.

If you have an event you'd like us to consider for Five Things, be sure to add it to the events calendar. We check it often!
    • The Billy Wilder Theater at UCLA's Hammer Museum will be screening The Decameron from director Pier Paolo Pasolini, and photographer Roberto Villa will also be there. For more information, click here.
    • Also at UCLA will be the first installment of its Literature Live series at William Andrews Clark Library. The event is called "Arts on the Grounds: 'Lady Windermere's Fan'," and it starts at 6 p.m. Saturday. To check out more information, click here.
    • Did you know you can join in on groups based on your interests and located close by on MeetUp.com? A quick gander at Westwood and Century City area groups show meet ups for poker players, hikers, singles, volleyball players, techies and more. Is there a group for you?
    • Plan ahead: Bloomingdale's Century City will host fashionista Rachel Zoe for a fall and winter fashion presentation at 9 p.m. Aug. 7. Space is limited, so be sure to call for reservations at 310-772-2114. See the full Patch event calendar listing here.
