Koretz, Rosendahl Urge Developers to Scale Back Casden Project

Council members Paul Koretz and Bill Rosendahl urged developers last week to rethink proposed plans for a commercial and residential project along Pico and Sepulveda Boulevards.

The Casden Sepulveda Project would include 266,800 square feet of retail commercial floor area and 538 residential units. Nearly 60 units would be "senior-affordable," according to a press release.

Koretz said area businesses, homeowners and neighborhood councils are against the project's proposed size, saying it's "too large for this congested area."

"I urge the developer to work with area stakeholders to design a new smaller project that reflects neighborhood needs and input," he said in a statement. "I know that together the developer and community can create a project that we will all be proud of."

Rosendahl said he opposed the project as it's currently presented.

"The size of the project is completely out of scale with surrounding development in the area," he said in a statement. "I hope the developers will be good neighbors and work towards scaling back the project and better leverage the transportation assets that Expo Phase 2 and the accompanying bike path will provide."

The City Planning Commission will take up the project in February. The Los Angeles City Council will make a final decision on the project in 2013, according to the press release.
