Man Killed In Sunset Boulevard Hit And Run

Police have few leads in the hit and run death of a 39-year-old homeless man, who was struck and killed on Sunset Boulevard,

LOS ANGELES, CA — Authorities identified a 39-year-old man struck and killed by a hit-and- run motorist in Westwood Saturday night.

Jeffrey Cook was struck and killed while crossing Sunset Boulevard. He was believed to have been a transient, coroner's Lt. Larry Dietz said.

Cook was crossing Sunset Boulevard on the southbound side of the street just east of Mapleton Drive, at 10:15 p.m. Saturday. He was walking outside of an unmarked crosswalk when a driver struck him and left him for dead. The driver continued eastbound on Sunset Boulevard, according to a watch sergeant at the LAPD's West Traffic Division.

Firefighters and paramedics rushed to the scene at 10:17 p.m. Saturday, but Cook was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police and Margaret Stewart of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Police had no description of the suspect's vehicle, and the investigation remains ongoing.
