No Charges Filed Against UCLA Water Polo Player Accused of Rape
Hakop Jack Kaplanyan plans to appeal his suspension from school Friday.

No charges have been filed against a UCLA freshman water polo player arrested for allegedly raping a female student in a campus residence hall, the student's lawyer said after a court appearance Thursday morning.
Hakop Jack Kaplanyan was due in court at 8:30 a.m. Kaplanyan's lawyer, Berc Agopoglu, posted an update on his firm's Facebook page Thursday after appearing in court.
"No charges have been filed as of today," he said. "Mr. Kaplanyan and I appeared in court as he was set for arraignment today. His family and friends were at the courthouse for support. ... Thank you for your support."

Kaplanyan plans to appeal his suspension from school.
Agopoglu said on Facebook that Kaplanyan's interim suspension appeal hearing is scheduled for Friday.

"We will now request UCLA to have him back as a student as he misses his school and friends and of course water polo," Agopoglu said.
Kaplanyan was arrested April 2, the same day the female student filed a report with campus police, police said. He was released on $200,000 bail.
