Summer rain is in the forecast for the Los Angeles area on Friday, just as the National Weather Service has announced the L.A. area is already having an unusually rainy July.
The Weather Service's Oxnard office sent out a communication noting that so far this July has been the fourth rainiest in downtown Los Angeles on record dating back to 1877.
In July, so far, downtown L.A. has seen just 0.09 inches of rain, according to the message, but because Los Angeles often sees little to no observable rain in July, that makes it the fourth rainiest July on record.
The rainiest was in 1886 with 0.24 inches. Â More recently, the third rainiest July in 1991 resulted in 0.13 inches.
As the Weather Service notes, there could be more measurable rain today.
Friday's forecast for the Los Angeles area includes a 20 percent chance of rain with isolated thunderstorms all over the county, according to the Weather Service.
