Thieves Ram Mansion's Gate To Get 1,000-Pound Safe

Thieves made off with $300K in cash and jewels from a neighbor of the Playboy Mansion, but they left behind a clue in the brazen heist.

LOS ANGELES, CA — Brazen thieves rammed through the gate of a Los Angeles mansion Thursday night, making off with a 1,000-pound safe filled with $300,000 in cash and jewelry.

The thieves targeted a $15 million home just a few doors down from the Playboy Mansion in Holmby Hills Thursday night. Los Angeles police were called to the scene in the 500 block of Mapleton Drive at 9:20 p.m. Thursday after a maid at the mansion discovered burglars ransacking the home, said Officer Rosario Herrera of the Los Angeles Police Department's Media Relations Section.

The thieves managed to haul the half-ton safe from the second story of the home, according to authorities.

Police searched for suspects but were unable to locate anyone, said Herrera. The crooks apparently used an SUV to ram the front gate, but they left behind a clue — the vehicle's side-view mirror was clipped by the gate and left in the driveway, ABC7 reported.

A description of the suspects was not immediately available.
