Tips On Living With A Roommate

When you share housing with other people, you also share the housing costs. Living with a roommate is a great way to save money.

For many Los Angeles residents, living with a roommate is a necessity, not just a preference. While in past decades adults in the 20’s and 30’s typically lived with a spouse, this trend has changed. With delayed marriages, increased debt, and rising costs to purchase a home, more people are choosing to live with roommates than ever. Sometimes those roommates are strangers, but other times they are friends or family members. Regardless of who they are, the benefits are always the same. When you share housing with other people, you also share the housing costs. Living with a roommate is a great way to save money.

Traditional Apartments
Many Los Angeles apartment renters choose to split a traditional apartment with roommates. These apartments are typically two or three bedrooms and require a 12-month lease. The bedrooms in each floor plan may vary, some with larger closet spaces and others with en-suite bathrooms. This could be a benefit for splitting an apartment with roommates that have different budgets. Someone who is looking to save a little more on rent could choose the smaller room.
Co-Living
Co-living is a cost-effective alternative to traditional apartment rentals. Plus, in many ways it makes living with roommates easier because everyone has their own lease, so you don’t need to split bills at the end of the months. Additionally, some co-living communities include weekly cleaning of common areas and utilities, making it easier to split responsibilities.
