UC May Change Faculty Salary Structure

Under the new structure, raises would correspond with the average salary in the promoted rank.

Faculty at UCLA may approve a policy that could guarantee them higher earnings over a longer period of time, reports The Daily Bruin.

Currently, faculty salaries at UCLA are determined by a UC-wide system that is consistent on all UC campuses and academic departments. If the policy is changed, faculty would receive a raise upon promotion that corresponds with the average salary of all faculty at the level of promotion.

The University of California increased salaries by 3 percent this fiscal year, but the recommendation to base salaries on what people are actually being paid could be a more long-term solution to the UC’s problem of lagging salaries, Susan Carlson, UC vice provost for academic personnel, told The Daily Bruin.
