UCLA Unveils Jackie Robinson Momument

WESTWOOD, CA - UCLA unveiled a monument to the late Jackie Robinson today on the school's Westwood campus.

The monument is a 42-inch bronze number "42" and is located outside the John Wooden Recreation Center.

Robinson wore No. 42 for the Brooklyn Dodgers when he broke Major League Baseball's color barrier in 1947. He helped the Dodgers win six pennants and the 1955 World Series, and was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1962.

Before his historic baseball career, Robinson was already a legend at UCLA, where he starred in baseball, football, basketball and track and field from 1939-41.

Robinson died in 1972.
