Water Main Break Closes Benedict Canyon Drive

Repair crews are in the process of tapping and shutting down the ruptured line.

A 12-inch water main break closed Benedict Canyon Drive today.

The problem was reported just south of Mulholland Drive in the 3200 block of Benedict Canyon about 7:20 a.m., and motorists were advised to use Beverly Glen or Coldwater Canyon.

Kim Hughes of the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power said crews were in the process of “tapping and shutting down” the ruptured line.

No customers lost service in the area, and no homes were flooded, she said.

Once the flow of water is stopped, crews will excavate the site and replace the broken pipe, but Hughes had no estimate on how long repairs would take.
