Cerritos College Radio Named America’s Best 2-Year Station

CERRITOS, CA — The WPMD radio station at Cerritos College was named the Best Two-Year College Radio Station at the College Media Association’s Fall National College Media Convention in Washington, D.C., Cerritos College announced Friday.

WPMD is a student-operated radio station at Cerritos College that provides content and programming worldwide on streaming sites including TuneIn, Streema and Radio Shaker, the Cerritos College press release said.

Student Julio Ramirez placed third in the Best Special Event Coverage category for his coverage of the Club Info Day in spring 2019, and student Carlos Madrigal placed second in the Best Radio Talk/Entertainment Program category for his show New Jams Radio Hour, the press release said.

"This is our second-best station award in 19 months, and seventh-best station nomination in six years," WPMD Advisor and Theatre Arts Instructor Casey Piotrowski said. "This is another testament to the excellent work by our students."

WPMD was also named America’s Best Community College Radio Station by the Intercollegiate Broadcasting System in spring 2018.
