Depending on the type of firearm turned in, residents received either a $200, $100, or $50 gift card to a major retailer. During the event, residents turned in ten handguns, three rifles, and one semiautomatic military-style rifle. Every gun turned in makes Artesia safer.

Over the last several years, the City has made great strides in reducing crime with the help of the
Sheriff’s Department. Crime in Artesia was down 28% last year, on top of a 35% decrease the year
before that, and the City dedicates nearly half of its budget to public safety. The City will continue
finding ways to work with law enforcement to improve public safety in the community.
