Cerritos College Nursing Student Receives Carmen Solis Pratt Scholarship

The Cerritos College Foundation presented Darlene Rodriguez of Whittier with the annual Carmen Solis Pratt Scholarship at its board meeting on November 15.

Retired Norwalk Superior Court Judge Dan Pratt established the $1,600 Carmen Solis Pratt Re-Entry Scholarship in the year 2001 in memory of his mother who valued education, but was never able to attend college herself.

Each year, a recipient is selected among applicants who are re-entry students at Cerritos College and are 35 years of age or older.

Rodriguez is pursuing her associate degree in nursing. She serves as class president and is an active member of the Student Nurses Association of Cerritos College.

Upon completion of her studies at Cerritos College in April, Rodriguez plans to pursue her bachelor's degree in nursing and eventually become a nurse practitioner.

"I am honored to present this scholarship on behalf Dan Pratt, who has provided support to Cerritos College re-entry students for more than ten years," said Richardson. "Darlene was selected as the recipient because she reflects his mother's sense of initiative and drive and he is certain she'll accomplish her educational goals."
