UPDATE: Man Shot in Parking Lot in Artesia

A man in his early 20s was wounded in a shooting in a restaurant parking lot in Artesia early Saturday.

The violence, which broke out about 1:15 a.m. July 27 in the 11600 block of South Street, was possibly gang-related, according to Sgt. James Robling of the Lakewood Sheriff's Station. He did not elaborate on the possible gang connection.

The shooting occurred on the southwest corner of Pioneer Boulevard and South Street, according to a watch sergeant.

The victim, who was shot once in the stomach, was taken to a hospital and was expected to survive, Jobling said.

The suspect was a male. No one was arrested, and no description of the shooter was made available.
