Two Whitney High Students Awarded Siemens Merit Scholarships

Two Whitney High School seniors have been named winners of the Siemens Merit Scholarships.

Whitney students Erik Wang and Charles Xue are two of 75 students throughout the county who won the scholarship, which provides each student with $4,000 for tuition over the course of their college years.

“Since 1999, the Siemens Foundation has administered the Siemens Merit Scholarship program on behalf of Siemens as an investment in education,” said Jeniffer Harper-Taylor, President of the Siemens Foundation. “These scholarships recognize children of Siemens employees for their academic excellence and should be celebrated by their communities.”

The Siemens Merit Scholarship is an award given to children of Siemens U.S. employees. Recipients were chosen based on high scores on the PSAT as well as academic record, activities, contribution to the community, school recommendation and an essay about personal characteristics, plans and goals.

This year the Siemens Foundation awarded $300,000 in scholarship funds on behalf of participating Siemens sectors. By recognizing outstanding performance, the Siemens Foundation hopes to encourage and inspire the next generation of scientists, researchers and thinkers to propel America forward.
