Couple Moves Forward With Wedding After Devastating Camp Fire

Some of the guests wore donated clothing after losing their belongings in the Northern California blaze.

CHICO, CA -- The most destructive and deadliest fire in California history didn't stop one couple from moving forward with their planned wedding. It didn't stop all the guests, who lost most of their belongings in the Camp Fire, from attending the nuptials either.

The Los Angeles Times reported Morgan Shingler and Brian Gobba of Paradise tied the knot in Chico last weekend, days after a massive wildfire quickly swept through their small town, taking more than 12,000 structures and burning more than 150,000 acres.

When the blaze erupted Nov. 8, Shingler and her family grabbed all the wedding items they could in the house, the newspaper reported.

"As the family ran from the house, they grabbed pictures off the wall, the gold spray-painted mason jars for the wedding centerpieces and the handmade gold stars crafted for the reception," the Los Angeles Times wrote. "They also grabbed the bride’s lace dress."

Despite the smoke-filled skies and the loss of belongings, the couple, along with their friends and family, celebrated love over the weekend.

“Many of us in this room have lost something, but we’re all here together,” Shingler's father said at the wedding.
