'It's Something' Says Camp Fire Victim After Finding Wedding Ring

Jake Olsen found his wife's wedding ring after the deadly Camp Fire burned their home and thousands of others.

PARADISE, CA -- A couple is grateful Monday after finding their wedding ring in the rubble that was once their home in Paradise, a town devastated by the deadly Camp Fire that burned through more than 6,000 residences.

Jake Olsen, a warden for the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, told the Associated Press he found his wife's wedding ring in the bedroom portion of what was once their home, shared with their four children.

The Associated Press reported Olsen's coworker helped him search the rubble to find the irreplacable item.

KTVU reported Olsen was called to help other evacuees when news of the fire hit.

"Olsen was one of the first responders saving patients from a nearby retirement home," KTVU reported.

“I just didn’t think we were going to find it, but we had to try," Olsen told the news station.

"It's something," he said.

The Camp Fire erupted Thursday morning in Butte County, quickly sorching 113,000 acres and taking the lives of at least 29 people. Officials said more than 200 other people have been reproted missing.
