Citrus Heights Chamber PAC Endorses Measure N

Measure N is supported by the San Juan Unified School District and its officials.

Members of the Citrus Heights Chamber of Commerce Political Action Committee (PAC) have made their endorsement of Measure N known.

According to a press statement released Tuesday afternoon, Chamber President and CEO Bettie Crosby said the Chamber is endorsing the measure because, "of its benefit to the Citrus Heights community by improving our schools and employing our local businesses increasing the economic development of our area.”

The measure claims to focus on the acquisition, construction and improvement in school facilities, including building new schools and classrooms to reduce student overcrowding. The measure would qualify the San Juan Unified School District for as much as $250 million in State funds, and up to $500 million in bonds at legal interest rates, with a citizen’s oversight committee, annual audits, no money for administrator salaries, and provided funds cannot be transferred to the State.

The funds allocated under the measure would come from taxpayers and business leaders.

The San Juan Unified Board of Education unanimously approved to get the measure on the November ballot, asking for voters to issue $350 million in bonds to support improvements in classrooms, technology and replace deteriorating portable classrooms.

"We're going to continue to have a number of improvements that are necessary for a number of different of areas," said Board of Education member Larry Miles. "Whether it's modernizing classrooms, whether it's replacing old portables, whether it's improving energy efficiency — all of those are critically improtant issues and Measure N is crucial to improving those over the course of the next decade."
