Citrus Heights Construction: Where, When, Why is it Happening?
Major road construction is going on in Citrus Heights this summer.
Many of Citrus Heights’ busy intersections are undergoing some changes. You’ve probably noticed the construction cones, signs and lane closures throughout the City, and other major streets.
In the latest Residents’ Empowerment Association of Citrus Heights, or REACH, newsletter, they outline the road construction projects that are happening now. Here’s a look at where, when and why these road updates are occurring, according to REACH:

Oak Ave to Antelope Rd
Teichert Construction continues to focus on construction of the new curb, gutter and sidewalk along the west side of Sunrise. The first sections of new concrete were placed the week of 8/6/12 north of Antelope and more was placed between Antelope Road and Old Auburn the week of 8/13/12. Teichert and GSD and PD staff continue to work closely to ensure that drivers slow down within the project work zone.

Sunrise Blvd Complete Streets Phase III –
Antelope Rd to City Limits
Design consultant, Bennett Engineering, has begun drafting the Request for Authori-zation to proceed with Right-of-Way Acquisition. This will be submitted to Caltrans immediately following State approval of the environmental documents for the project (expected in late August).
Antelope Rd Accessibility and Safety Improvement
Staff is working with the contractor, McGuire & Hester, to finalize the complex traf-fic control plan for this project. A second “in field” pre-construction meeting was held on August 13th and McGuire & Hester began work on August 16th.
Mesa Verde Bike Trail / Old Auburn Multi-Use Bike Trail
Selected Alta Planning & Design for the design and anticipate awarding the contract at the September 13th City Council meeting.
Linden Ave Drainage Improve-ments Project (Area 6&7 Master Plan Implementation)
The consultant is working on easement acquisitions and 90% plans, specifications and estimate. The project involves construction of drainage pipes, drain inlets and manholes to significantly increase the flood protection provided to the residents.
Sycamore Ave Drainage Im-provements Project (Area 6&7 Master Plan Implementation)
Staff is currently reviewing 90% plans, specifications and estimate. Project is sched-uled for bidding early September.
2012 Bus Stop
Improvements, Phase II
The design consultant, Dokken Engineering, has submitted the 65% plan set, and the project team and RT are currently reviewing them. Construction will occur in the spring of 2013.
Cedar Dr., Loleta Ave. and Poppy Way Drainage Improve-ments Project (Area 6&7 Master Plan Implementation)
The Advisory Committee for the Antelope Crossing Transformation Project held its last meeting on July 9th. The committee reviewed the draft Transformation Plan and gave comments. Next, the Transformation Plan will be presented to the City Council for approval on September 13th. Mariposa Ave Safe Routes to School Phase II Sidewalk Infill Project
The contractor, Martin General Engineering (MGE), continues to make progress with the curb, gutter & sidewalk on the west side of Mariposa and anticipates opening this side to pedestrians within two weeks. Once the west side is finished, MGE will begin work on the east side. The entire project should be finished by early October.
Safe Routes To School: Ante-lope Road Sidewalk Infill Pro-ject
On July 2nd the City was awarded a new $450,000 State-legislated Safe Routes to School (SR2S) grant for the Antelope Road Sidewalk Infill Project. The Project will construct approximately 1,150 lineal feet of in-fill curb, gutter and sidewalk (in six locations) along the north side of Antelope Road between Auburn Blvd. and I-80. The Project includes acquisition of the necessary Rights-of-Way from four parcels, construction of new storm drainage facilities, installation of six new street lights and five ADA curb ramps. Staff anticipates beginning the design consultant selection process for this project in the fall of 2012. Construction is anticipated to occur in Fiscal Year 2014/2015.
2012 Auburn Boulevard Resur-facing Project
Contractor, Central Valley Engineering and Asphalt (CVE), began work on Au-gust 6th. They are moving quickly with reconstruction of various deteriorated sections of curb, gutter and sidewalk, including the bus stop at the northeast corner of Auburn Blvd. and Twin Oaks Ave. The contractor expects to finish all of the concrete repairs by early October and perform the actual resurfacing in late October.
