Connecting Point Business Workshops Set for Nov. 13 in Citrus Heights

More than 60 government agency officials and small business advocates will come together in Citrus Heights Nov. 13 in an effort to help small businesses.

The sixth annual Connecting Point 2012 is a series of workshops to help showcase local businesses through panel discussions, networking opportunities and business resources.

Four workshops will run during two sessions, from 9:15-10 a.m. and 10-11:15 a.m. All workshops are offered at both session times and are first-come, first-seated.

The four workshops are:

1. e-Procurement: Tips and Strategies from the California Department of General Services (DGS):

• Effectively navigate the State of California website
• Understand the importance of your profile on the State's database
• Learn to access procurement and contracting opportunities

2. Tips for Bidding Success With Government from Sacramento Public Agency Consortium (SacPAC) members:

• Learn where to find important information about advertised bids and procurement opportunities
• Hear "insider tips" about how to avoid common mistakes
• Learn about the advantages of different public agency certifications and bid preferences

3. How to Become a Well Run Business with SCORE — For the Life of Your Business

• Navigate - Learn how to set medium and long term goals for your business and how to stay on course to achieve them
• Operate - What are the day to day activities necessary to keep your business on track
• Communicate - Make sure a consistent message about your business is delivered to customers, potential customers and employees

4. Social Media: What, When, Why ... and When Not for Small Business with Northeastern CA Small Business Development Center, Greater Sacramento/Sierra

• Receive an overview of the major platforms and methods for the beginner
• Learn how to align media tools with traditional marketing methods for the intermediate user
• Review of some best practices that should interest the Social Media savvy
