Police: Citizen's Alerts Lead to Arrest of Two Fleeing Robbery Suspects

Citrus Heights Police officials are crediting the actions of one quick-thinking citizen's alert prior to the arrest of two men suspected of breaking into cars Saturday evening.

It was around 8:30 p.m., according to a CHPD press release, that the citizen reported seeing two subjects breaking into vehicles in the Sunrise Mall parking lot. CHPD officials said that it was within mintes of receiving the alert and seconds upon arriving on the scene that officers saw the suspect vehicle immediately flee the area.

"The driver sped eastbound on Greenback until he sideswiped a citizen at Greenback and Illinois in Orangevale and collided into a ditch," according to the release. "That citizen was not injured."

The two suspects fled the vehicle, according to police.

Officers pursued the suspects, who were later identified as Anthony Junkin, 25 and Marcus Culbertson, 28, with the assistnace of other law enforcement agencies

While the agencies set up a perimeter, citizens continued to provide information on sightings, which led to one suspect’s, capture in a nearby backyard, according to police. Another citizen alerted police to the second suspect walking away from the scene. Both suspects were arrested and booked into County Jail. 

The driver, Junkin, was booked for outstanding felony warrants and fresh charges for evading. The passenger, Culbertson, was also booked for evading.
