Tour Historic Sylvan Cemetery Saturday

The free tour of the Citrus Heights cemetery is in conjunction with October Family History Month.

Ever wanted to tour Historic Sylvan Cemetery in Citrus Heights, the resting place of more than 1,300 veterans? Saturday’s your chance.

Historic Sylvan Cemetery staff will hold a guided tour of its grounds at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 27 in conjunction with October Family History Month.

This Citrus Heights cemetery is the resting place of veterans who served in the Civil War, Spanish American War, WWI and WWII, Korean War, Vietnam Conflict and the Gulf War, according to a news release.

Founding families and early settlers of Citrus Heights and Fair Oaks are also buried there, including the Van Maren, Rusch, Volle and Ose families.

The cemetery recently celebrated its 150th anniversary. The board of trustees are currently commissioning the construction of a bell tower to honor the deceased.
