Want to Serve Citrus Heights? City Accepts Applications for Commissions

Recruitment for the Planning Commission, History and Arts Commission and Construction Board of Appeals is going on now.

Interested in having a say in local government? The City of Citrus Heights is currently accepting applications for three commissions and boards: Planning Commission, History and Arts Commission and Construction Board of Appeals.

To apply, you must be 18 years old or older and reside within the Citrus Heights city limits; for the History and Arts Commission, applicants must be a Citrus Heights resident, descendants of Citrus Heights residents or former residents. 

The deadline for submitting applications is 5 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4 to the City Clerk’s office. No postmarks are accepted.

Applications and information on each of the commissions may be obtained from the City Hall, 6237 Fountain Square Drive or call 916-725-2448 for more information. The application is also available here.

Below is information from the City of Citrus Heights regarding each of the three commissions:

Planning Commission: Planning Commissioners make land use decisions consistent with the policies and plans formally adopted by the City Council; and weigh the professional input given in staff reports, environmental impact reports and consultant reports in making decisions. The Commission may also review proposed city ordinances; the annual Capital Improvement Plan; and other issues related to consistency with the General Plan. Meetings are held at 7 p.m. on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month.

History and Arts Commission: History and Arts Commissioners recommend to the City Council the means to implement policies in the General Plan related to historic preservation by developing information and programs to increase awareness of, preservation of and use of historical landmarks, artifacts and other historic materials; develop programs which promote cultural art activities and programs throughout the community; and implement the policies with the General Plan to expand community-wide cultural arts events. Meetings are held at 7 p.m. on the first Monday of each month.

Construction Board of Appeals: The City is looking for three representatives from the following professions: one contractor, one architect and a member from the general public with a physical disability. Board Members hear the appeals of persons aggrieved by a decision of the City's Chief Building Official. Relative to the appeal, Board Members determine the suitability of alternate materials and methods of construction and provide reasonable interpretations of the Technical Codes. Meetings are held as needed, and when an appeal is filed.
