City of Ontario, Jay Littleton Ballpark Win Preservation Award

The ballpark is registered as a Historic Landmark and has been featured in films such as "A League of Their Own," "Eight Men Out."

One of Ontario’s most iconic cultural landmarks, and backdrop for some of the most popular baseball movies ever, is being honored by the California Preservation Foundation (CPF) with a 2020 Preservation Design Award in the category of Cultural Resource Studies.

Jay Littleton Ballpark opened in 1937 at 1076 N. Grove Ave. and has been in continuous use since as a municipal baseball facility. The ballpark is registered as a Historic Landmark and has been featured in films such as “A League of Their Own,” “Eight Men Out” and “The Babe Ruth Story,” as well as an episode of “The X-Files.”

In announcing the award, CPF cited the collaboration between City staff, structural engineers, preservation architects, and historic preservation professionals in developing a five-year management plan “that will ensure conscientious stewardship of the park for years to come.”
