Claremont City Council Adopts $53.3 Million Budget

Around $26.1 million of the budget will be spent using the general fund, according to Claremont officials.

CLAREMONT, CA — City leaders unanimously approved its $53.3 million budget for the 2022 fiscal year Tuesday, with increased spending in staffing, city projects as well as utility and contract services.

The budget is a $4.4 million increase from last year’s $48.9 million spending plan for the 2020 fiscal year. The city is predicting it will have around $51.7 million in revenue for its spending plan.

"The budget is a moral document," Mayor Jennifer Stark said during Tuesday's City Council meeting. "It shows that our values are and that working together to invest in what is important to us is very meaningful work."

Around $26.2 million will be used up by the general fund, $10.2 million by special revenue funds and $11,189,991 by enterprise funds.

Special revenue funds are money that has been earmarked for a specific purpose at the state, federal or county level, according to City Manager Adam Pirrie. Enterprise funds are money spent for the city’s transportation, sewer and cemetery services.

Of the general fund expenditures, the city will spend about $13.5 million on the Claremont Police Department while $3.1 will go to community development, $1.9 million to community services and $2.2 million to human services.
