High Wind Advisory Issued for Much of the Southland

Forecasters expect winds of between 25 and 35 mph, gusting to 45 mph.

LOS ANGELES, CA - Strong winds will buffet areas of the Southland on Friday, especially the Antelope Valley and San Gabriel Mountains, forecasters said.

A wind advisory issued by the National weather Service will be in effect from 2 p.m. Friday until 8 a.m. Saturday in the Antelope Valley, where winds of between 20 and 30 miles per hour are expected, along with gusts of 45 mph, possibly 50 mph in the foothills. Blowing sand and dust could be a problem, forecasters said

In the San Gabriels, a wind advisory will be in effect in both Los Angeles and Ventura counties from 8 p.m. Friday until 8 a.m. Saturday. Forecasters expect winds of between 25 and 35 mph, gusting to 45 mph, with the strongest gusts likely through the Interstate 5 corridor.

"The winds will make driving difficult, especially for motorists with high-profile vehicles," an NWS statement said, adding that isolated gusts of more than 50 mph are likely across higher peaks.

Temperatures, meanwhile, will continue to go down. The NWS forecast mostly cloudy skies Friday in Los Angeles County, sunny skies in Orange County, and highs of 66 on Mount Wilson; 68 in Newport Beach, Laguna Beach and San Clemente; 69 in Avalon and at LAX; 71 in Irvine and Mission Viejo; 72 in Long Beach; 73 in Burbank; 74 in downtown L.A., Saugus, San Gabriel and Anaheim; 75 in Fullerton, Palmdale and Pasadena; 76 in Woodland Hills and Lancaster; and 77 in Yorba Linda.

Saturday's temperatures will be roughly the same, but sunny skies are expected everywhere. Temperatures are expected to be in the 60s and 70s over the next several days.
