Deadly Plane Crash Near La Verne Airport

A small plane crashed near Brackett Field. It's the second fatal crash in two days, the FAA says.

LA VERNE, CA — A small aircraft crashed shortly after taking off from Brackett Field Airport in La Verne on Monday. This is the second fatal crash near that airport in a period of two days, according to reports.

Los Angeles County firefighters were sent to the 1600 block of McKinley Avenue to assist the La Verne Fire Department. According to the La Verne Police Department watch commander, the pilot, who was the sole occupant, did not survive the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Beech Bonanza aircraft crashed under unknown circumstances while on approach to Brackett Airfield Monday, according to Elizabeth Cory, FAA spokesperson. The aircraft "may have hit a tree" she said.

The area is the same general area where a person was killed in the crash of a Cessna plane on Sunday. The NTSB will conduct an investigation into both Sunday and Monday's crashes, both which appear to have occurred for differing reasons.

Brackett Airfield declined to comment on the incident.
