The goal of the event is to teach the history of acorns, and their importance to the area's indigenous people such as the Tongya, Cahuillo and Serrano tribes, and how they were turned from uneatable to a food-source staple.

The garden has several varieties of oak trees on site, and will be using most acorns from those trees for activities during the family-friendly event, which will feature several crafts such as tools, toys, basket weaving, pictographs and shell necklaces for the children.
