SAN GABRIEL VALLEY, CA -- A man who died after falling hundreds of feet while hiking in the Sierra Nevada mountains has been identified as Terrence Casey, 53, of Glendora, according to the Madera County Sheriff's Office.
Authorities say that Casey and a hiking partner were on a trail near Iceberg Lake in Madera County when Casey lost his footing and fell about 200 to 300 feet, according to the Sheriff's Office. He was not carrying equipment to prevent the fall.
The partner was able to hike further down to where Casey had fallen, but found that he had already died, authorities said.
