Volunteers Needed for Creek Cleanup and Butterfly Garden Restoration

From the City of Concord:

Families are invited to join City of Concord Public Works staff at Newhall Park to clean up the creek and restore a butterfly garden on Friday, April 26th from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

“Cleaning the creek will help prevent pollution downstream in the Bay, and will help maintain a quality park for both citizens and wild life,” says City Parks intern Robin Smith. “The butterfly garden could use some tender loving care as well so we are reaching out to the community to garner interest in restoring it. By volunteering for this event, people can be part of the solution to the problem of pollution, and parents will have the opportunity to teach their children the value of community service and protecting our natural resources.”

Interested volunteers should contact Smith at Robin.Smith@cityofconcord.org or (925) 671-3371 to register. Children need their parent or legal guardian to sign a liability waiver, stating that their child is allowed to participate and the children must be accompanied by their guardian or another adult responsible for the child’s safety (teacher, neighbor etc.). Groups of ten or more should RSVP as soon as possible to assure that waivers and proper equipment are available for everyone. Participants should plan to wear long pants and closed-toed shoes.
