City Cancels Youth Government Forum Due To Lack of Interest

There were too few registrations for the event, according to the City of Concord. What do you think would encourage more youth participation in government?

Concord's youth are missing out on a chance to learn about city government and participate in the civic process, after a forum had to be canceled due to lack of registrations.

The Youth in Government Forum set for April 27 intended to connect high school students with city leaders so that Concord's youth could learn about careers in government and share ideas about how to approach the challenges facing the city.

The forum was suggested by Mayor Dan Helix as a way to "get young people more involved in local government," according to a city press release. Councilmembers Ron Leone and Edi Birsan apparently visited local high schools to invite students to participate.

With the event canceled, the City of Concord is reminding local youth that they can still voice opinions by completing the companion Concord Youth Survey on the city's website.
