Coroner Identifies Motorcyclist Killed In Concord Crash

A man who died in a Clayton Road collision between a motorcycle and a car was identified as an 18-year-old Concord resident.

CONCORD, CA — A Concord man who died in a motorcycle crash Friday morning on Clayton Road has been identified by the Contra Costa County coroner's office as 20-year-old Michael Hopfner. The collision was reported at 7:15 a.m. Friday at the intersection of Clayton Road and Heather Drive, according to Concord police Department Traffic Cpl. Ghaznawi Murtazah.

Traffic investigators with the Concord Police Department determined Hopfner was heading westbound on his motorcycle on Clayton Road and collided with a car as he reached the intersection at Heather Drive.

Emergency personnel responded and Hopfner was taken to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek, where he was pronounced deceased.

The other driver involved in the crash, a 46-year-old Pittsburg resident, stayed at the scene and cooperated with the investigation, Murtazah said

One lane of Clayton Road was closed in each direction for about three hours as the collision was investigated.

Police do not believe drugs or alcohol were factors, the corporal said.

The fatal incident remains under investigation; any witnesses who have not yet spoken with police or anyone else who has information pertinent to the crash is asked to call Concord PD Traffic Officer Katan Nanthasiri at 925-671-5096.
