Contra Costa County Flood Control DistrictΒ officials are looking for volunteers to help plant 16,000 native plants in northern Concord this weekend.
TheΒ projectΒ will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday at the Clayton Valley Drain off Solano Avenue.
Three types of native plants will be planted -- field sedge, Santa Barbara sedge and wild rye grass.
Flood control district officials want to see if a large quantity of native plants can fight off invasive non-native species.
Volunteers are asked to sign up onΒ this website.Β They should wear clothes that can get dirty. Long pants and closed-toed shoes are recommended. So are gloves and a water bottle.
A barbecue lunch will be provided free of charge.
